FSS awarded contract to develop Abu Dhabi police laboratory and DNA database

The Forensic Science Service® (FSS) has been awarded a contract worth over £1m to provide development and training for the police criminal evidence laboratory in Abu Dhabi.

Under the contract, the FSS will provide training in a range of forensic disciplines, upgrade quality processes of the criminal and forensic labs, implement the latest procedures, and develop a DNA database. The contract, which is for two years, also includes the supply of DNA database software.

FSS International Business Director Alan Matthews said: “The FSS looks forward to working with the Abu Dhabi Police forensic laboratory in order to share our expertise and experience in a wide range of forensic disciplines, especially DNA.”

His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, attended the signing of the agreement between Alan Matthews and Lt Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Interior. Click here to see a picture

Prince Andrew, who was on a three-day visit to the UAE, attended the ceremony in his capacity as the United Kingdom’s special representative for foreign trade and investment.

Commenting, Prince Andrew said: “I am delighted to be here to celebrate this first class partnership between the UK Forensic Science Service and the Abu Dhabi Police.”

He expressed hope that this contract would be the beginning of a “long and developing relationship” between the UAE and Britain.

Lt.-Gen. Shaikh Saif said: “It’s our pleasure to receive His Royal Highness Prince Andrew and brief him on some of our achievements in the Abu Dhabi Police. We are also glad that he witnessed the signing of the contract between the Abu Dhabi Police and The Forensic Science Service.”
